Introducing new tools into your tanning regime will pose a lot of questions; How do I look after these brushes? How do I clean them? To get everybody up to speed with these amazing tools, we have answered all those questions below. Read on for the complete guide in caring for your tanning brushes.
WHY BRUSHES FOR TANNING?
Unable to find the perfect brushes for her tanning technique, Amanda created her own range of face and body brushes in 2011. They are shaped to allow tanning products to adhere to the bristles, and to shape naturally to the contours of the body. They are super-soft, long-lasting, washable and – crucially – hard-wearing… because once you try Brushable Tanning, you’ll never go back.
NATURAL HAIR AND MOULTING
The brushes at Amanda Harrington London are made from 100% natural hair. This means, that similarly to your makeup brushes, they need to be washed and dried regularly. During the first few uses of your brush; it is normal for the brushes to moult slightly, which means you may notice stray hairs that have come loose across your skin. This is completely normal and does not mean that your brush has been damaged in any way. Wait until your tan has dried before picking off any stray hairs. Once your brushes have been washed a few times the natural moulting should stop.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES
All of our brushes are cleaned best with our ‘Gentle Care Brush Shampoo’. This shampoo can be used on both natural and synthetic brushes. Therefore, you can also clean your makeup brushes with this product.
- 1. Run the brush under warm water.
- 2. Massage 1 pump of the shampoo into the brush and rinse thoroughly.
- 3. Squeeze out any excess water and brush off on a dry towel.
- 4. Reshape the bristles and leave over the edge of a counter to allow for a 360-degree air dry.
WHY DO I NEED TO RESHAPE THE BRUSHES AFTER WASHING?
Your brush shape is an integral part of achieving a flawless streak-free finish. Therefore it is very important to reshape your brushes appropriately once you have finished washing them. Don’t worry about perfecting the exact shape the brush, as long as nothing is impacting the curve of the brush.
HOW MANY TIMES CAN I USE THE BRUSHES BEFORE I WASH THEM?
We recommend washing your brushes after every 2 uses, but this depends on how much product you put on them in each application. It is more likely that you will use more product on your body brushes, than your face brushes, therefore you may find that you want to wash these more regularly. As long as your brushes are dried and stored correctly then you can wash your brushes after each application, should you wish.
WHEN DO I NEED TO BUY A NEW SET OF BRUSHES?
If your brushes are cleaned, dried and stored properly, then like makeup brushes they should last you a long time. By caring for your tanning brushes correctly you should only need to replace them every 2 or 3 years.
