Fake Tan for Sensitive Skin
We understand that the hunger for a sunless glow prevails as we embrace summer, but have previous fake tans irritated your skin and not given you the bronze you desire? (And deserve!) For those on the quest to find a fake tan that is gentle on sensitive skin, we have you covered. To our sensitive skinned Roses, Honeys and Olives, here is your ultimate guide to fake tan for sensitive skin.
1. Use a tan with sensitive skin friendly ingredients
The Amanda Harrington London fake tan range has been created with sensitive skin in mind and is your best choice for a gentle fake tan! With a formula that doesn’t include a drop of alcohol, alongside being Sulphate, GMO, Paraben and Petrolatum free, you’ll find the AHL tanning products hydrate and softens the skin, rather than causing irritation and problem areas.
2. Always do a Patch Test if concerned
If your sensitive skin has historically caused you problems and you are concerned, we would always recommend in the first instance to consult a GP. However, if it is your first time using fake tan and you are unsure how your sensitive skin will react, your best bet is to do a patch test 48 hours before you want to apply your fake tan.
Using a cotton bud, apply a small amount of fake tan to an area of skin that can remain untouched for 24 hours. You must not get this patch of skin wet. After the 48 hours if you don’t feel any irritation or discomfort then you are good to go! If you do, then simply wash it off with warm water and soap.
3. Use a gentle exfoliator
If you suffer with sensitive skin that is often flaky and dry, applying fake tan to these areas may be of concern for you. Never fear, an extended exfoliation routine will solve all your problems. Soak in a tub for 20 minutes to soften your skin, then use our New Skin Body to gently slough away any dead skin cells. The small castor beads paired with Aloe Vera will gently refresh and soothe the skin, whilst the glycolic and fruit acid combination will polish the skin, without causing irritation.
4. Keep your skin hydrated
Do you suffer from eczema and find fake tan clings to those sensitive areas? The key is to hydrate the skin. The Ultra Balm contains a gorgeous blend of Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Almond Oil and Aloe Vera which deeply nourishes any problem areas on the skin leaving it soft and supple. Our Head Tanning Artist Kelly recommends adding 2 layers of the Ultra Balm to any patches of eczema to hydrate and soften the sensitive skin before applying fake tan. This will aid towards a seamless application and even fade.
