‘Be unapologetic about your VISION and always speak from the heart’

I am thrilled to be launching my signature tanning treatment at the stunning Ned's Club Spa London. We are the first sunless tanning brand to offer a luxury, in spa treatment and I can't tell you how proud I am to be partnering with such an incredible team.

Set in the former Midland Bank building, The Ned was designed by Sir Edwin 'Ned' Lutyens in 1924. Part of the Soho House & Co family, the space includes ten restaurants, 250 bedrooms channeling 1920s and 1930s design.

The tanning takes place in the relaxing treatment rooms in Ned’s Club Spa. Facilities include a sauna, steam room, Moroccan hammam and 20-metre indoor swimming pool surrounded by marble columns and mosaic tiles. Marble-clad changing areas continue the opulent, 1920s feel.

The Signature Tan (40 minutes - £85)

A full body treatment applied with my artisan brushes.

A select collection of my sunless tan and skincare products will also be available on site at the spa.

Treatments are bookable by Ned’s Club members, Ned Friends and hotel guests. For more information, head to the Ned’s website

The Ned: If you could give one piece of advice to anyone wanting to start their own business what would it be?

Amanda: Starting a business can be a daunting experience but if you truly believe in your product and the brand you want to create, do it. Remember that it requires all your time, energy and commitment; everything takes double the amount of time you think it will to come together at first, so be patient.

The Ned: Before launching your product line you’d had more than 15 years’ experience as a body artist, working with ten-thousand-plus clients. What inspired you to diversify what you do?

Amanda: A mixture of different things. Beauty editors forever saying “you should bottle this technique”, clients asking me to create travel and vacation kits and self-tan packages and, most important of all, that question you have to ask yourself multiple times before you start the process: “Will I regret it if I don’t?”. So here we are.

The Ned: What challenges did you face?

Amanda: The challenges go through phases, based on where you are on your journey. For me, it’s gone from formulation woes and the will-I-ever-be-happy-with-the-product questions, to launching and then having to pivot the entire supply chain rather quickly during lockdown. And then there’s Brexit. Business is essentially a matter of problem solving every single day.

The Ned: Have you ever worked with a mentor?

Amanda: I have had a few mentors in the past few years – they have changed as the business takes different directions. Each offered support and advice that helped me navigate my way through a particular problem at that moment in time.

The Ned: What’s the best career advice that you’ve ever been given?

Amanda: Be unapologetic about your vision and always speak from the heart.

The Ned: What do you enjoy most about running your own business?

Amanda: My team and the passion to see them grow – not just as individuals but in terms of their own skill sets, training and career experience. Culture is hugely important to me. I have been lucky enough to work with the same team for a number of years. I like my workplace to feel like a family.

The Ned: And what are the downsides...?

Amanda: You can never go on annual leave and switch off. If you run a business and can do that, I want to know your secret!

The Ned: Looking ahead, what are your ambitions for your business?

Amanda: To create a one-stop shop for safe skin – one designed to educate on the benefits of skin health, the importance of SPF, the dangers of sunbeds and blasting in the actual sun. And also to share the power of self-tan; how it can improve your mood and body confidence. I also have exciting new products and tools coming this year.

Amanda Harrington at Ned’s Club Spa launches on 30 October. Prices from £85
